With the introduction of the internet our family history will live on...... Long into the future.
More family history to follow........
The directory was last updated:

The DRAPER'S shop that became an institution in Glasgow's west end because of its old-fashioned style has closed its doors. Sadly on the 30th September 2005.
Until Now.............
The Kelvin House was opened by Anthony Maxwell in Hyndland Road, Partick, in 1919. It later moved to its current premises in Dumbarton Road and is renowned for its range of products harking back to a bygone age.
Everything from warm bed jackets and knitted tea cosies, to chairbacks and sideboard runners. Top sellers include net curtains, as well as bed jackets, because of the shop's closeness to the Western Infirmary. Corsets and hosiery items have also been firm favorites with generations of shoppers.

However

David Rogerson and Archibald Sharp of 'Archibald Sharp & Company', closed the shutters on the retail shop in September 2005. They made the decision after Herbert Maxwell, son of the shop's founder, passed away.
NO consultation, or consideration given to the immediate family, especially Herbert Maxwell's only daughter, and only grand children. They decided to kill history, to 'cash in' the value of the freehold property in the west end of Glasgow.
After years of service to Herbert Maxwell, David Rogerson was quoted as saying "The Kelvin House will be no more, but I want to start again by opening a smaller shop in the west end if I can. I will have to see what happens."
To this date they have done nothing, to the total disrespect of; my Great Grandfather Anthony, my Grandmother, my Grandfather and the family history.

This webpage is a tribute to the founders of The Kelvinhouse;

Anthony Maxwell, and his son Herbert Maxwell.
( My Great Grandfather and his son My Grandfather)

With their family values and blessings;
"History has been written, we must live with what we have done. The future is our own making."

I hope you will find these pages helpful, and informative. Should you want to add any comments, or your business to our directory. I am more than happy to help.
